Rain Barrel Workshop – 3 hour - 11-2
Description: A discussion of the importance of conserving water in the garden and safe water collection practices. Building of a base to hold the rain barrel, a frame and gutter placement, building of rain barrel system.

Vertical Space Part 1: Strawberry Tower– 2 hours - 11-1
Description: A discussion on vertical spacing in the garden will occur. A description of the benefits of conserving water and space will be included. Along with examples of different kinds of vertical spacing projects in the garden. A workshop on building a strawberry tower for the garden will be given. If participants would like to build a vertical tower for food for their own uses, they will be encouraged to bring their own materials and we will help them construct the tower.

Vertical Space Part 2: Salad Garden – 1-1.5 hours - 1-3
Description: A continued discussion on vertical spacing in the garden. A rain gutter display with salads will be constructed (see above picture for example). Only 2-3 tiers will be constructed on the side of the PGPIRG shed.

Permaculture Part 1: Herb Spiral – 3 hours - 10-1
Description: A discussion on the benefits of herb spirals and placement of permaculture principles in the garden. An herb spiral will be constructed and discussion about placement of plants in the herb spiral will occur and be designed for the PGPIRG Garden.

Permaculture Part 2: Hot Bed Construction – 3 hours - 1-4
Description: A discussion on using materials in a permaculture design, reuse and recycling will be presented. A discussion on how to prolong the season in the northern climate with materials will be discussed. The construction of the hot bed will commence.
